Sick Ninja 250?

I hope I’m not being a hypochondriac about my bike.

I was going though the Ninja 250 FAQ wiki to try to figure out what’s wrong.

    The following looked promising:

    “My engine is backfiring.

If the engine is just popping a little bit as you decelerate, then you’re getting preignition. This is caused by a lean mixture condition. Check carbs for vacuum leaks, or richen (raise) the needles or idle mixture (turn out screws).”

I have that happen a little when I let off the throttle a little especially when it was in the powerband of first gear (like roaming through a parking lot to an intersection for a yield.) It’s been like that since I got it.

“My bike will run for a while, but keeps losing power and dying when I ride it.

This indicates tight valves. It dies at low RPMs, but will continue to run if the throttle is opened.

Take the bike in and have the valves adjusted (or do it yourself) before you do real damage to the motor. “

Could this be why it’s going kaput even when warm when coasting into a stop without being sloppy and giving the throttle a little bit of palm? It’s been doing this more and more. I notice at low RPM when starting out, it sounds like it’s lugging noticeably, but once the engine speed gets up, it goes away. I also noticed last oil change some tiny metal particles in the oil?

Also, anyone know a cause for idle to keep going low? I got the bike with low idle, I’ve adjusted it a few times to be higher (~1400), and yet it keeps idling at about +/- 1100 RPM the next time I ride, even warm.
