second bike after year long hiatus

I had a Kawasaki Versys for over a year and put little over 1000 miles on it. I sold it since I wanted to pay off my car and that funds were short at the time. Now I’ve got the itch and am feeling the need to be on two wheels again.

I’m falling in love with a 2009 Yamaha R6s. The “S” is the softer street version of the current R6. Does anyone have this bike? Anyone ever ride an R6? I’m just looking for opinions on the bike.

The R6s is not a softer street anything. it is simply the previous generation R6 rebadged under a new name, like how kawasaki started calling the 2001-spec ZX-6R the ZZR-600 after they introduced a new ZX-6R in 2003.

That is a bike that has been tuned for the new sport bike rider…not the new rider, there is a difference…It has the sport bike style, but not the SS craziness…it is more along the lines of the GSX650F or the Honda CBF600…these are also good bikes to look at for someone with some street experience…they will have about 10-15 more Hp than your Versys had…and they have a more standard riding position…but give you the more sporty looks…

    Later.

By all account R6 is a great middle weight sportbike, known for its sharp handling, if a little weak in the low-end compared to the other middle weights. I had wanted an ’05 R6 (same style as the current R6″s” except the ’05 had the inverted forks) for a long time, and came close to getting one. I thought the ’06 and newer R6 looked weird, but I’m finally warmed up to the newer style. The R6″s” is still a handsome bike, but now it looks a little “yesterday”.

With only 1000 miles of riding experience, you haven’t even started the learning process. If you want to learn to ride, something similar to the Versys (with a more standard, upright position) would be a much better choice than the R6s.

    I agree.

    +1
I still feel very much like a newbie with 3000 miles on my Ninja250R this summer.
