Riding on Gravel causes pitting in tires?

ParticipantI heard that riding on gravel causes pieces of wear on the tire. Is this true? If so, that would explain the strange wear on my rear tire.

ParticipantThat depends on how jagged the gravel is and how aggressive you are on it.

ParticipantApparently I was too aggressive practising riding on a gravel road for a few miles. It was big pieces of rock. That’s the only thing I can think of.
