Rain ride home after work… just because.
Route: Oregon Expressway > 280 N > 84 Woodside > 35 > 9 > Lawrence Expressway.Twas really wet… -_-;

I learned last summer…if it rains… wait 5 mins… not because of the road conditions….thought thats a good reason too… but harsh summer southern thunderstorms…the leading edge drops rain about the size of quarters. I’d almost rather my kids throw rocks at me.

January 31, 2009 at 4:53 pm #16182SantaCruzRiderParticipantOil and grime build up on the roadway during dry periods (in Cali, that’s typically May-November). Then the first big rain saturates the road, lifts out all that oil and washes it away. While that’s happening, the roads are at their slickest.
According to Hough’s “Proficient Motorcycling,” it takes about a half hour of heavy downpour to wash away the accumulated oil.
Personally, I skip riding on the first rain day following a dry spell. I don’t have proof, but it seems like drivers lose all sense on those first days and there are more crashes.
February 28, 2009 at 6:39 pm #16803LokiParticipantIve been cought in some serious rain before. Sucks because i didnt have anything on but denim jeans and my leather jacket started leaking. It was awful… soaked to the bone and freezing, had to go into work like that to.
