Question about magnets on tank bags…

I was wondering if the magnets from the tank bags will cause problems with a digital camera if it is kept in the bag during the ride? I’m not enjoying the pics I get from my cheapo pocket camera and want to start using my better digital camera again…but it doesn’t fit in the pocket very nicely. The tank bag would work great for many other items (maps, cell phone, etc…) and the back pack isn’t really convenient for quick stops…
Hopefully someone has the answer to this one, I just don’t want to spend a weekend riding and taking pictures to find the data all messed up by the magnets.
Thanks.

Most (all?) new digital cameras use solid-state storage, buffers, etc. Although susceptible to electromagnetic fields, generally magnets found in every-day items don’t have a large enough field to have an affect on solid-state devices. We did have a magnet at work a few weeks ago that was strong enough to induce a magnetic field in aluminum (when moving), and magnetize a 3-foot crowbar. That one might be able to screw up a digital camera, but I wouldn’t worry about it in a magnetic tank bag.
I don’t know if you have a little point-and-shoot or a DSLR, but I carry my camera in the front breast pocket on my jacket….just another option, makes it easy to get to.

Not sure how powerful it is in comparison to your bags though…

The camera is just a point and shoot, but it is older (read BIG)…I was trying to carry it in my jacket pocket, but it digs in a little…I had the string around my neck last night with the camera under my jacket…that worked better, but it still dug in…
I actually don’t have a tank bag yet, but I wasn’t sure if I should get the convenient magnetic bag or the strap on one…I think I will get a magnetic and a net for the back of the bike to carry my lunch bag at work…it was 32C (94F ish) here today and the back pack doesn’t let the air flow through my jacket as good as I would have liked…
Thanks for your input guys.
Later.
