I am thinking of closing a deal on one of these. The price difference between the 2007 and 2008 machines (both new) is about $300 US. Is that discount about right for northeast US?

For that little difference I would get the 08. When it’s time to sell it it’s a year newer.

Mechanically they are identical.
The only difference between the years is the paint!

The 08 has the advantage that when you sell it, it will sound newer. Though, honestly, the odometer is far more telling to any moderately informed buyer.

If they are both fresh from the dealer (near zero odometer) then go for whichever one you like the look of better. You can justify it as “getting the better deal” if you like the color of the 07, or you can justify it as “will have more resale value” if you like the color of the 08.

Won’t tell you which year is which. Yellow is more visible, black is a bit more subtle.

I have a deep seated love for yellow cars and motorcycles, but the only yellow I’ve seen on the 500R comes with (in my strictly peanut gallery opinion) lame red decals that just totally spoils the awesome-yellow-ness of it all (Ducati didn’t need red decals on its yellow Monster… kawi should have saved itself a few dollars and skipped the decals)

If it is decal free, yellow all the way. If it has decals, black.

along the bottom. Is that a decal? The black one has them in red but they are a little harder to notice. It looked like factory work.

I’m not a big fan of any vehicles that are yellow myself. I think they make motorcycles look like bananas… And flames on the bottom? That’s a definate pass for me… But if you like it, go for it. Opinions are like assholes… you know the saying…

The ’09’s will be coming out soon for Ninja 500, and infact there is already a page for them up on the Kawa website with an msrp. Once those hit the dealerships any ’07’s will be even cheaper and you’ll prolly be able to haggle more.
