Oil Change Problem

I bought all the stuff and went to change the oil on my Ninja 500 today… a few problems…
one being that one of the screws holding the fairing on is like half-way in the fairing or something… cuz i can’t get my wrench on it…
second: when i unscrewed oil drain plug and took it off, no oil came out O_o? i took the cap off to make sure it wasn’t just pressure holding it in (which doesn’t make sense to me, since i’m a physics/engineering guy)… and still nothing came out…
Background info: My oil looks clear before i start it up, but when i do start it up, blackness starts collecting at the bottom of the window, and when i turn it off, it turns all black… then like 30 minutes later, it’ll turn clear again. My bike died like 2 or 3 months ago on 280 going south to work near Page Mill exit, nice guy helped me put it up on his truck and he drove it to my home with me (he used his truck bed door as a ramp, pretty cool idea… caused a little damage to the bottom of the lower fairing… which doesn’t matter too much since you can’t see it anyways…)
i’m not sure what to do… help!

I am unsure about bikes but I do know in the auto industry when we face that we take a screwdriver and carefully push through the oil drain. Sometimes “gunk” likes to settle there and act like a plug. It would be a step I would take on my own, the risk is yours however. The clear then black then back to clear puzles me and worries me a bit. How old is the bike? Did you have any gasket problems?
Ever get an explanation of why it died on you?Yesterday is a memory, tomorrow is a prediction, but today…… is a Bi**h
October 17, 2008 at 5:25 am #13948AzN LogiKParticipanti’m crazy dumb…. so since i couldn’t get the fairing off… i didn’t look around for the drain plug, i just went for the first thing… and it was the air flow tube…. i shoulda looked….
so now the problem is basically getting the fairing off so i can get the filter off….. i can’t believe i’m an engineer…. and took off the wrong screw…. at least it wasn’t for fuel or something, cuz nothing came out…. hahaha…. i’mma laugh for days…
the bike is a ’95…. and what a waste of time….
i just figured it out right now cuz i was still curious cuz something about that screw didn’t seem right, so i took a mirror and a light (beats feel)… and saw there are two screws… one is the oil drain plug, the other for another tube….
bring on the laughs….
