After riding a 150cc scooter for three years, I started surfing for a “bigger” bike. I came across this site and it help me narrow my search to the Vulcan 500. I wanted a bike that would allow me to cruise on the highway, light enough for commuting, and provide good gas mileage. Other sites and other reviewers also spoke very highly of this relatively under marketed bike. Well my search for a local bike was easy and I ended up with a 1999 model with only 2500 miles on it a month or so ago. (the seller actually had two 500s) The only issue that I had was that there are not many accessories available for the Vulcan 500, so customizing it was going to be somewhat limited. Unfortunately, my local Kawasaki dealership was unhelpful so I ordered some parts from http://www.scootworks.com and bikebandit.com and made some minor adjustments to make the accessories fit. So far so good …and I’ve really enjoyed riding the bike…and if your of average build and wait, it really does give you the best of both worlds.

The 500’s seem to be a little rare around here although the 09’s may be out soon. Anyway, I hope to check one out tomorrow at a dealership that’s a little further out. And I may end up getting one but probably not tomorrow.

Excellent…I’ve put over 600 miles on my Vulcan since I purchased it. Handles well, and has been giving me between 50 and 55 mpg. Interstate riding took a little getting used to, but I’ve added a windshield to help displace the wind. I also replaced the stock driver pegs with a set of Kuryakyn dually pegs. I plan to change the exhaust and the passenger pegs, and add a back rest over the coming year.
