ParticipantOh God that’s a pretty bike…
It was a 1980 custom (if I remember right), but it was a little ragged, and he was tired of working on something that never did quite work right.

ParticipantGoing to check this one out on the 15th…
It’s an ’07 MT-01 with 8000kms (5000miles)…almost half the mileage of the ’06 I was looking at…
All black, corbin seat, aftermarket cans, K&N filters and a power commander already tuned…all for about $600 more than the ’06…steal of a deal if you ask me…woo hoo…says he also has a windshield for it…

ParticipantLooks pretty sweet to me

ParticipantI’ll be going to check it out with cash in my pocket, so if it fits what I am looking for…I will have my new toy…then I will have to sell my GS500 in the spring…maybe put an ad up at the riding school I went to last year…it was a great bike, I just feel I’m too big to tour on it…commuting and riding around town is a blast, but going for longer rides is where I found it lacking a little…
To me, the MT-01 looks mean and sounds the part as well. It’s not the fastest bike, thankfully, but it has all the torque you would ever want…so no slowing down in a strong headwind or on a steep hill…
I’m kinda pumped that I have made the decision…

ParticipantI think this bike might just be too sexy to pass up.

…seeing as BMW has not come through with producing the concept 6, I might have to get me an MV next yearJanuary 13, 2011 at 4:01 pm #29038madjak30
ParticipantI didn’t know they were in Canada…that’s the F3 isn’t it?
My cheap side is starting to kick in with my bike upgrade…not sure I want to spend $7-8000 on a bike…thinking about an old sport touring 650-750cc…
or…
The GSX650F is a little more money than the Katana…$5000ish for the GSX-F, $4000ish for the Katana…
Should have more leg room than the GS500 and similar to the MT-01…both are faster, more fuel efficient and cheaper to insure…the faring would be nice for touring…
It must be getting close to time to buy, I’m getting nervous about it…lol

ParticipantMV Agusta has been picked up by Motovan & they will be importing them to Canada by 2012. I just placed my order for an F3
…hope it actually happens, the price is TBA but I want one just the same.
Honey, can I have an MV, can I have an MV, can I have an MV;)BTW: I like that GSX650F of the bunch so far

ParticipantVery nice toy…not for me, atleast not yet…
As for the GSX650F…yeah, I like that one…Rab actually suggested it to me about 6 months ago, and I kinda brushed it off…I was pretty sure I was getting a cruiser at that point, but over the summer I got more used to the riding position of the GS500 (which is pretty tight for a 6ish footer)…so now it is back in the mix…I always liked the Katana bikes…old school air/oil cooled and carbs…translation, easy to work on…and they have proven to be quite reliable, if not cutting edge…but 90Hp is plenty for me, which is about 10 up on the GSX-F…but fuel injection would be nice…
We’ll see what kind of deals are out there in a month or so…there is a Katana 750 on Kijiji right now asking $3450 w/32,000kms…who knows what will pop up in a month when guys are starting to see the snow melting…or atleast start thinking of the snow melting…-21C + wind right now…no riding for a while yet…lol

ParticipantHate to suggest it, but if $$$ matters, you might be able to find a Hyosung 650 for less than the Zuke. The GT650 uses an engine that is very similar to that of the SV650. 2010 and newer models are injected, the 650R looks like a gixxer, they GT 650 is a naked bike, and they have a new model for 2011 the 650S, which looks a lot like the SV650-S.
I have found a comparison article between an ’05 GT650R and an ’03 SV650-S here: http://www.motorcycle.com/shoot-outs/hyosung-gt650-vs-suzuki-sv650-14284.html The ’05 model wasn’t injected, but all of their new models are.
Hyosung has been around for 30(ish) years and they have been making scooters and motorcycles for years, but have just recently entered the ‘world’ market. They are making big improvements to most of their models every year. Don’t know how the market share is up there is Canada, or availability, but here in Oregon, every time I check they’ve picked up another dealership.

ParticipantThey had a Hyosung booth at the bike show I went to on the weekend, and I found them a little tighter riding position than the SV650S which I find too tight already…I saw a comparison between the new GT650 vs Gladius vs ER6-n…the reviewer prefered the Hyosung for a fun toy since it felt more “raw” and sporty, but over all picked the Gladius because he found it more user friendly and comfortable, just barely edging out the ER6-n…
I’m actually leaning back toward the Bandit line of bikes…comfort and touring ability…just have to decide if a more than adequate 600S will come to my house or the “now that’s a blast” 1200S will come to me…I’m thinking the 600 (or newer 650) would be fine, it should be plenty fast considering what my point of reference is…GS500…45Hp, 25Ft/Lbs torque…to 70ish Hp, and 40ish TQ…more than 50% increase on both…
I’m thinking that the 600 will keep me happy for atleast a couple of seasons, since I was considering keeping the GS for another year while I decide…but the last ride I took reminded me of why I’m ready for the next step up…passing at hiway speeds needs to be planned, there is no twist and go left after 110kph (70mph)…wind and hills also will slow you to this speed unless you shift down to fourth to accellerate and fifth will hold the speed, but you are turning around 7500-8000rpm doing it…instead of 5500rpm in sixth…where the 1200S would keep me happy for a few years…100Hp and 70 TQ…there would be no problem with that bike…other than I might scare myself a couple of times getting used to it…it’s quite a big step up from where I am…
The other option that I am considering is the Katana 750…a little less leg room than the Bandit, but more than my bike has…and the power is between the two Bandits, plus a full faring to keep the wind/weather off…I just don’t know if I want to be leaned that far forward (although it is more upright than a VFR and lots of guys tour on them)…yes I know…I seem to be stuck on Suzuki, but I just find them more comfortable than the others…??
Decisions, decisions…

ParticipantLOL….it’s fun to watch you swaying between the different bikes out there, and interesting to read. Strangely I’ve been focussed on just the one bike now for over a year (Versys), but the money gods have been conspiring to keep me from it. But everything I read only confirms my decision it is the right bike for me. Well that and a KLX250S.

ParticipantI’m literally like a kid in a candy store…I want one of everything, but have been told to pick one…
I have a hard time choosing between lustful bike (MT-01) to frugal and sensible (Bandit 600S)…then everything in between…you know, shades of gray…I want to pick one that I will be satisfied with for atleast two to three years (hence the Bandit 1200S) and be on a budget that I don’t have to stretch to get…
I said it before…I want to be like Gary and own four bikes at a time…

ParticipantSomeone needs to support you easterners…it isn’t cheap to keep the “center of the universe” going…;-P
And really, if someone can afford to order an MV Agusta…glass houses man…lol

ParticipantThe deals are starting to come out of the wood work…Bandit 1200S, Bandit 600S, Katana 750…
Do I wait until the roads start to clear so that I can test ride the bikes, or do I get it now before the prices start to go up…??
I’m really starting to see some smokin’ deals on Bandits 2002-2004 models…the 1200s are about 30% more, but they are a lot more bike…I’m kinda leaning toward the 600, the performance of the bike is similar to the SV650 (not quite as sharp, but close) with more comfort…I can get one (2004 Bandit 600S 7800kms…4875miles…on the clock) for the same price I will be puting my GS500 in the paper for in the spring…and for $1000 more a 2002 Bandit 1200S 22,000kms…13,750miles…
Hmmmm….
