I would consider myself a fairly new rider as I have never had a 250cc + motorcycle before. In terms of experience, i have probably done 40k miles in my late teens (I am 32 now) on the 150cc motorcycle but then again have never gone faster than say 75mph ever on a motorcycle. Also have no riding experience on Freeways either- I used to ride motorcycles in India (Mumbai, India is where I am from, migrated here 7 years ago).
My Wife recently said that I could get a motorcycle if I wanted one. So here I am, will be talking the safety course in a couple of weeks and am considering one of those almost noob bikes- FZ6R or a similar Suzuki. Though, I am not very sure if I should go that far high on the cc, may end up getting a smaller bike. Prefer FZ6R for its looks, the way it felt when I sat on it and finally because I tend to like Yamaha’s (never owned another make)
So that is me. Finally, you guys have a lot of very good information here. Hope to learn and contribute to the very good content here on these forums.

Not sure how beginner the fz6r is… some say it’s a good beginner bike, some say it’s not a real beginner bike. Either way, sit on a few. I started on an SV650S. The 08+ lines are all fully faired and look every bit as good as super sport replicas. V-Twin engine with a very smooth, linear power delivery. Kawasaki has the 650R which competes with the SV. It’s a p-twin and has gotten good reviews all around the net. You would probably have no issues moving up to the *Twin 650 bikes considering you do have what seems to be extensive experience riding on 2 wheels.

On the other hand, I am not sure if there are some used ones (2-3 years used) that I should look at. I am not very familiar with the models so if you have any recommendations on what 500-600 sport bike to consider? I plan to keep it for several years and am not planning to commute on it. Thanks again.
PS: Yes, I have spent time riding but would consider myself closer to a novice (40k miles in 4-5 years) than to an expert. If I get a 600cc bike, I will not be riding it out on the freeway for the first several months. Well, even if it is smaller I probably would not as I would need to get used to it.
