First, thanks again for sharing your experience and info. It is greatly appreciated.

Yes, the wife will want to ride on the back. I’ve talked with her about driving, and she has little interest in that. So 2 passengers will be an eventual goal. Though most riding will be done solo.

I hadn’t given a lot of thought about the difficulties of adding that second passenger, so I’ll have to put more thought into it.

As much as I “want” a sport bike, my brain says sport bikes are not good first bikes. Learn on something else. I assume I’ll take to this like fish to water, but who knows? I cycle a lot an I drive stick shifts, but I haven’t ridden a motorcycle in 20 some years, and that was riding a friends dirtbike in the dirt. So I assume I have lots to learn.

In the end, I’d like to ease into the sport, so I’ll likely have to go the dealer route so I can learn a bit more about the bike and the effects of altitude changes.

But I’m also a cheap person. So I’m not likely to buy a bike and replace it a season or two later. I’ll stick with what I have for a while, which is why I need to put a lot of thought into what I get.

Most beginner-oriented bikes are standards that offer a blend of sporty performance and handling with semi-cruiser ergonomics. Still suck for passengers though.
