My coworker and one of my best friends was pulling out of a parking lot last night in his car and was hit by a motorcyclist. The cyclist was killed in the accident on the scene. My friend said the guy was going so fast on his bike when he hit him, he didn’t even see him coming. The cyclist was not wearing a helmet and was ejected into the incoming traffic and struck by multiple vehicles. A horrible tragedy all around. My friend called me after the accident last night, crying. He knows I ride a motorcycle. He is feeling so much guilt. I just feel so sad and terrible today.

He was backing his pick up truck out of his driveway and a guy on a bike doing 65 in a 25 zone ran a stop sign and struck the rear of the truck. The rider ended up a paralyzed from the neck down and even though it was determined by police that my uncle was not at fault, the guy sued my uncle, who had to declare bankrupcy in order to keep from losing his house. Wasn’t a pretty sight.

Your friend and the rider’s family are in my thoughts. It always pains me to hear about a rider going down.

There was a motorcycle this morning that I had the devil’s own time seeing. I did see him before pulling out, but it was a near thing. We just aren’t as visible on our bikes, so it’s important to keep alert for the folks who miss us.
Also, to keep our speeds at levels appropriate for our circumstances. 65 in a residential area is asking for trouble.
