Seeing a post about recalls and bike dependancy I tried to look up where I had osted this before. Couldn’t find it so I decided to post it again. Ben is there a way to make the sight searchable through key words?
    Anyways here’s the link:

Thanks, Munch. That link is excellent. However, it sure looks like there are all kinds of recalls for every make and model. Yikes!

Knew you guys are on your toes here. Recalls are not always life threatening, but it is good to know that there is a place to check on your current ride for defects. New models or platforms are prone to recalls, usually a ” real world glitch ” that the engineers didn’t detect in the design. I build business jets for a living (sheet metal assembler) and you would be amazed at the number of modifications they go through to meet FAA requirements and customer expectations. Just want those that come to this site to understand that a recall does not mean that the product is bad, forums and reviews will lend to better information while researching. Ride safe and God bless. Jon D.

But not as extensive as you might think. Honda Rebel and Honda Magna are both absent from the list (or at least the VF750C version of the Magna). But as Jon D. said, recall is different from life-threatening problem. I noticed that there were plenty of recalls for things like incorrect manuals.

This is really some fun late-night reading — thanks Munch.

Personally, I think recalls are a good thing, and often show the good faith of a bike-maker in dealing with defects or flaws that become apparent after a new model is introduced. Parts bin technology certainly favors some bike makers and lines, while others will are more “progressive” and lend themselves to some post-launch sorting out. I would expect to see more recalls for sportier bikes, both because some push the limits of materials and also because makers are under more pressure to update their models.

Alot of these are little fixes to avoid wiring abrasion or cosmetic issues. But then some really give you pause: like the Boss Hoss recall of 1992 and 1993? to fix rear axles that may shatter and cause loss of control — whoa, that could be problem!

Actually, they’ve probably never needed a recall because most Harley buyers immediately strip half the parts and replace them with Screaming Eagle parts. LOL

That list is incomplete. Clicking the Ducati and Suzuki link, I found they were missing recent important recalls. The ducati had a recall of certain batches of 848/1098 this year (2009) for voltage regulator and suzuki had a recall earlier this year (2009) for their gsxr600(???) for frame weakness.

I’d recommend searching for your bike @ http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/recalls/ instead. For you people in other countries, if you have a similar government body, find it and use it.

that’s definitely a better place to go for manufacturer specific recalls. It will also cover other aspects like safety recalls and general. The one I posted was not meant to be an end all but just a good place to start to give a blanket coverage.
