Since this site doesn’t have a chat room function (Ben, get cracking on it!), I figured I would put together a forum thread for people who want to know where they can go on the web to chat with other bikers and info about the sites. So far I only know of two but I hope the list will grow by your additions.
#motorcycles – IRC EFnet Chat network (accessible from http://www.efnet.org or by downloading the shareware chat client from http://www.mirc.com). This is a heavily sportbike-biased chat community with a few cruiser riders. Most of the channel regulars and moderators have been coming to the channel for over a decade now and know each other in person. They make it a point to meet at Deal’s Gap at least once a year. Notable personalities include gix, a moderator who is a track day instructor IRL and avid GSXR fan (he has owned 4 so far I think), and Dezmo, a motorcycle technician who is the owner of a Ducati 888 superbike (the one before the 916). Dezmo works at a dealership that used to carry Hyosung bikes but stopped because they couldn’t honor warranty claims because they couldn’t obtain parts needed to fix things when they went wrong. Pretty much everything bad you hear me say about Hyosung comes from him.
Motorcycles chat room on Yahoo chat-accessible by downloading the Yahoo Messenger client from http://www.yahoo.com. The chat room is heavily cruiser biased with most of the channel regulars being forty-something Harley owners, some of which (but not all) are very hostile towards owners of metric bikes. I’ve been in there quite a few times so far and most of them pretty much started ignoring me after discovering I was an owner of a Suzuki. The only ones who were nice to me were a 53 year old woman who goes by the handle “Breeze” and owns a Harley dresser, and a man whose handle is “Rat” who owns three vintage Harleys all from the 70s.
And for those of you who play EVE Online, I am a member of an in-game corporation called Point of No Return (ticker is PUNT) that is comprised by roughly 50% motorcycle owners. One of the guys in our corp owns an Aprilia RSV1000R . At any given time the corporate chat channel in-game can turn into a motorcycle chat room.
Add any motorcycle chat areas to this thread you know about.
