Hey everyone. I’m from Michigan. I have wanted to get into motorcycling for a long time but never had the money for it. I finally have the money for it but I just have to wait to take my msf course, which isn’t until August because that was all that was left open for the summer.
A friend of mine at college is really into sportbikes just like I am and he kept telling me that I needed to get a 600 because anything smaller is lame. I even showed him what the new ninja looked like and all he did was make fun of how small the tires were and was saying it would probably sound like a chainsaw. He convinced me and I was looking into getting a used R6 until I did some research. I read some things about starting out smaller but I also read things about starting small would be boring. It wasn’t until I came across this sight that I was sealed on the fact that I needed to start out small.
My friend from college got a chance to ride his friends gixxer and he rode it over to my house. First thing he said to me was, this thing is almost too fast! He was actually pretty scared of it. So I don’t think I will have to worry about being made fun of by him because I started out small.
I’m am looking into getting the 2008 Ninja 250R for my first bike but like everyone knows, they are hard to find. I’m really excited about getting into riding!

The 250R is a perfect starter bike, it has plenty of power for new riders. I can go 75-80 with ease and with some throttle left on the highway. It is a very nimble and easy ride bike. If you are looking at getting bike for the first time it is a great bike. Now, if you are anything like your friend who is like “Bigger is better” then you might grow out of it quickly, but i think i’ll be with this bike for awhile. I hate to use the old adage but, “it’s not the size that matters, its how you use it”

I’m not a “Bigger is better” kind of person. Just getting a motorcycle is a really big step for me. A lot of people tell me they can’t see me getting a motorcycle and I can’t wait to prove them wrong. I’m really excitied about all of it. I’ve started buying some gear that I have found on sale for pretty cheap. I really want to get the 08 Ninja 250R because its small and it still looks sweet. I plan on sticking with it for a while because the only reason I would get a bigger motorcycle is because of looks and the 08 covers that for me. Honestly, when do you need to go 180mph?
Very good point with the saying. I have heard of guys with 250s beating guys that ride 600s in a race through the twisties.

well i agree with you that the looks of the ) are awesome. Good luck with everything, and if you are truly in the market for a ninja 250R you might want to start looking at an 09 because they are extremely hard to find. Good luck and welcome…

June 30, 2008 at 9:07 pm #8115nobeeParticipantThey do look awesome. I won’t get my license until August so I’m going to see what I can find used near the end of the season. Hopefully I can find one cheaper because they don’t want to have to deal with storing it over the winter.
