Soo my friend talked me into wanting a motorcycle (took me longer to convince my girlfriend to go along with it) and I want a sport bike for sure. I’m not sure which one. I really like the 06 Katana 750 or the 04 Suzuki Gsxr750. I was also looking into a newer Ninja 500 but I am really digging the Katana. Anyone think otherwise? Also, my little brother is about to turn 15 and get his motorcycle permit. I want to get him a bike too so we can ride around together haha. Sooo I was thinking about getting a Ninja 250, is that a good idea? or does anyone think it isn’t a good idea?

Would be especially cool. Although read some of the articles here. You’ll live longer and have more fun riding with your brother if you start out on the Ninja 500, rather than going for the bigger bikes.

There might be some value in both starting on the 250, so one doesn’t outpace the other. And they’re all over the used market, so you can get them on the cheap.

ahhh cool. I totally know what you mean. I told him he couldn’t ride unless I was around haha. I had my eye on a couple of used ninja 250s that are in my area. I’ll definitely have to look into them a little more and get my friend (who has more experience with bikes) look them over. AWe, but I did find a Katana 750. and its the exact color I’d like to have for only $4,400. This isn’t really my first time riding, I’ve ridden before just never owned my own bike haha, well I do have a moped haha.

Yea, I’m gonna get him the cheapest 250 I can find haha. That was he can sell it when he turns 16 to get a new one. I am more interested in the 2008 Yamaha Fz6… Pretty nice bike. I am in Millington, right out of Memphis. Not a very good place to visit (at night or in the “ghetto” parts) but yea the rest of Tennessee is nice.
Oh, I was also wondering if anyone knew the Tennessee state law for having underglow on motorcycles. I cant find an answer anywhere, really I’m too lazy to look anymore.

Ask a wandering LEO. I know here on the other side of the mountains you can find some waiting some where either to chat with the next shift for a few or to catch the unwary speedster. Just look for them …pull over and ask.

I get the appeal of the bigger bikes. I always look longingly at the CBRs as I walk by at the dealership, but I keep walking.

The point here is that it’s hard to beat the cool factor of you and your brother having matched bikes. If you’re leaving him behind in the dust, it’s gonna stop being fun for him, and that kills the joy.

I still remember driving in to Memphis on highway 78 and my 5-year-old son was excited to see all the nice residents waving their welcome as motorist entered the city. I chose not to enlighten him that 78 cuts through the red-light district and the greeters were all working girls. ;)

haha I really don’t think I’ll have the guts to leave him behind. He’ll probably be going faster than I will at first. Yea I think you are talking about Shelby Forest State Park. I used to live out there. It is really nice, we still own some land out there. I don’t like driving through downtwon Memphis or the Bartlett area. A lot of crazy drivers out there.
