Looking for advice…

Alright. I’ve got a plan that might be crazy or might be brilliant. I don’t have a ton of motorcycle-riding friends, so I’d appreciate any advice or thoughts.
Here it is: Get a bike. Spend 6 months learning to ride it, getting all the gear I need, taking safety classes, and saving some money. Then, in the spring, set out on my bike traveling around America, camping, staying with friends and at cheap motels, and working for an organization that I used to work for that has offices all around the country and would be willing to employ me at any of these offices for as little as two weeks time. I’ve run the numbers, and it seems affordable.
Quick context: I’m a good traveler and experienced camper, so that side of the equation is not an issue. I also just graduated college from a good school with good grades and all that. But I can’t get a job that interests me. I’ve been looking for three-months now to no avail.
My main question is: should I do it?
My other questions are: what do you think a good bike would be for such a journey? What about other bike related gear? Any other tips?September 1, 2009 at 10:11 pm #22139SafetyFirstParticipantAll I can say is, that sounds like fun! Memories will last a lifetime. Probably could do up a blog about it.
Consider the ergos of the bike you’re looking at. You’re not just doing the Saturday riding thing, or the way to work across town thing, you’re looking at spending hours on end with your keester glued to that bike. Make sure it doesn’t cause much fatigue.

I am doing the riding part of MSP tomorrow. All the reading says to buy a 250cc to begin with. My hubby prefers I get a 600cc. We have a 1984 Honda GoldWing converted to a trike. I haven’t seen anyone mention the Suzuki S40. What say you about this one? I do intend to do lots of PLP before I go on road. Scared and exhilarated at the same time. Any advice for a newbie like me? My ride will be communting and going to Sacramento occasionally for now.
