Total newb here. Have never even slung carcas over a motorcycle in my life, but bitten by the bug, and mostly researching at this point. I’ve always been athletic, bike (bicycle — that Lance Armstrong thing) racing, triathlon, that kind of thing. But I don’t even know enough to be dangerous at this point. Just trying to be a sponge and soak up whatever I can.

I’m a 45 year old family guy, so I’m not one of those that’s going to want to test the limits of pretty much any bike. Pretty much no ego to have to keep in check. You probably see the question “what bike should I buy” a hundred times a day, and I guess I’m no different in that I’m looking around and asking the same type of thing, but willing to take a lot of feedback and make the decision for myself. The basic criteria that I’m looking for is, in no particular order, (1) dependable, (2) somewhat quiet, (3) good fuel economy, (4) “comfortable”, and (5) at least partially faired. I’ve been looking at the sport bike category, which may or may not be correct, mainly because I think I might find more comfortable being used to a road bicycle racing position (and finding that very comfortable). I’m thinking (maybe incorrectly) that having years of bicycle riding and racing in traffic might give me a little bit of a leg up as far as knowing that I’m basically invisible to people in cars, and keeping my wits about me in a big way when I’m on 2 wheels. My wife is also wanting to ride, and is looking at the cruiser end of spectrum (Suzuki S40). I’m liking the Ninja 250 or Buell Blast, but wonder about longer trips on interstates.

I found this site just a few days ago, and haven’t even lurked much in the forum, but I’ve read several of the articles and reviews (the Ninja 250r review was great). Looking forward to being a part.

So… Hi. And any feedback is welcome.

define long trips on the interstate. I have a classic 250 and have taken it on the interstate for at least one hour. It did fine. I think it fits the criteria of “partially faired, economy and comfort.” There are guys over at ninja250.com that tour on them. Welcome to the site.

I’d guess that it might be 200-300 miles in a day (say Seattle to Omak? or Spokane). I know, these are both completely different rides, but if I think of I-90 for 4-5 hours in a single day… That might be the limit. But that would be maybe a once-a-year kind of thing.

I’ll check that other site as well. Thanks again!
