ParticipantI recently went to see a 2005 Kawasaki Vulcan 500 LTD priced at $2,750 with saddlebags, windshield, lugage rack with 21,476 miles. I looked up blue book for this year and it is $2,200. Is this a good price? The price is that first figure or OBO. If I offer less, how much should I offer? This will be my first bike. I currently ride a Honda Goldwing Trike. I know not the same thing. I have sat on everything except a Suzuki S40. Dealers tell me the S40 will not be made for 2010. Thanks for any response. I have already done the MSF and received my M1 license. Thanks for the input on this bike.

ParticipantThats an excellent price considering the accessories if its in good shape. I wouldn’t bother haggling over it.
Its high mileage but its pretty safe to say that its all highway miles and the bike was used for long distance touring, which isn’t really bad at all. Just drill him about whether or not he used motorcycle specific oil when doing his oil changes. Ask for maintenance records if you can. And you may find yourself having to replace the voltage regulator/rectifier which is about a $100 part but its easy to replace, can do it yourself with a screwdriver.

ParticipantSounds like a good deal to me, the Vulcan 500’s are nice rides and it already has the most useful accessories on it. It wouldn’t hurt to haggle over it some IMO, most people who sell bikes are always going to list it for more than they are willing to sell it for. I’d throw him a lowball of $2000 or so and hopefully end up meeting him in the middle somewhere. If your in an area were the riding season is just about over, you may end up getting a really good deal, as he may want to unload it to avoid storing it for the winter. As WeaponZero said make sure you find out the maintenance history of the bike and adjust your offer accordingly.
Good luck with the purchase. BTW, got any pics of your GoldWing Trike?

ParticipantI looked at that bike today. It is setting on a Wheels and Deals lot. Didn’t look like the 2nd owner took very good care of it. I will call the guy tomorrow and ask about the maintenance record. Salesman told me the guy sounded pretty anal when you talk to him. The windshield was broken with a piece out of lower right side. It also had like metal bars going around it. You can find it on the website Oodle.com. Just put in the kawasaki vulcan 500 ltd 2005. The picture looks good but as I said, in person, not so great.
I will take some pictures of the Goldwing trike and put them up this weekend. Going out of town tomorrow.
