so i bought some new turn signals for my gs500f (k7). the turn signals are supposed to be universal, and they look really nice, but they came with no installation/mounting instructions. it seems simple enough… drill a hole in the fairing and attach the bolts, along with the adhesive pads, and hook up the pos and ground leads. but i figure id ask around for any tips or advice on installing turn signals (pictures below)

If there’s anything more important than my ego
around, I want it caught and shot now…December 6, 2008 at 4:57 pm #15171megaspazParticipantFunny, I’ve been thinking about doing the same thing. A couple of things stopped me. I wouldn’t call anything that requires drilling into plastics universal, most replacement signals aren’t DOT approved, and the profile of them. The profile looks like they’d be harder to see for cars in front of you from their rear view mirror, especially them big SUVs. Usually for me, anything that I think isn’t a straight up drop in replacement, I take to a shop and have them do it. G’luck installing them, because those turn signals actually do look a heck of a lot better than the stock ones.

It’s the oncoming car that needs to see it (or other cars at a 4-way stop). They won’t be looking at you via the rear view mirror (I hope, but I guess ya never know).
December 6, 2008 at 6:59 pm #15174megaspazParticipanthrm… let’s see… me passing car to left or right, accellerating to pass, suv in front goes left or right, where ever i’m going… yeh, no need for the suv driver to get advance notice that i’m changing lanes… @.@
One more thing to note. If you do get in an accident similar to the situation above, and your turn signals aren’t DOT approved, there’s one point against you in a law suit. Food for thought.

Not sure how good they stay in position over time either. I personally like the European style with the signals on the mirrors like my ducati has.

Those rear signals are invisible in daylight. I added some 6″ LED strips on the outside of the rear fairing and wired them to the signals. Makes a HUGE difference. I may do something similar on the front.

Most cases she will watch and look and walk around and look again and let you know if your to high or too low. They are more critical of placement then we guys seem to be. Think I am wrong… ask a married man that has had to move a couple of times and hang pictures. Nothing like a person not HAVING to do the actual labor to have the luxury of being perfect, where as the one who IS doing the labor gets frustrated or impatient and says “screw it they only see one side at a time”
Other then that …… measure twice….look once…measure again ..then cut. A mock up stencil would be a good idea to.Yesterday is a memory, tomorrow is a prediction, but today…… is a Bi**h
