How common is it to drag the footpeg in a turn?

Actually, on a 270 degree right hand turn during the evaluation portion of the MSF class, I was a tad more aggressive on the throttle than normal so I had to compensate by pushing harder on the right grip. Of course the bike then leaned more and I dragged the right footpeg through part of the turn. I thought I had screwed up but the instructor said I did exactly the right thing by not letting off the throttle and countesterring more.

My question is, how often do you find yourself leaning hard into a turn and dragging the footpeg? I did it again the other day while practicing u-turns. Is this something that is fairly common or is it something to be corrected if you find it happening alot?

We were dragging footpegs all weekend a few weeks ago. If your trying to u-turn though; your pegs shouldn’t even come near the ground unless your bike is really low which it’s not. Press harder with your foot, slow your bike down and steer a bit more while keeping your body straight and you should have it down stat. However also remember that your new bike isn’t going to have the same turning radius as the one you used in the MSF course so you need to increase your blue box to the right size.

I thought ours was 18×25 feet and the MSF instructor said that with my bike my new blue box was 25×32 or so their around that!

I must be a huge wuss because I’ve never dragged footpegs at all :) Sometimes I feel like i’m leaned over enough to be able to, but I’ve never done it!

Both me and a riding buddy ride ex500’s which the pegs are a bit low. Its still very good lean though.

My buddy popped his peg dragging cherry that weekend. He told me what I already knew. It scared the shit out of him just like it did me my first time! lol

I suppose they have hinges on them for a reason :)

You’re going into the turns too fast if you’re scraping the pegs. Slow down before the turn and gently accelerate through the turn.

If you’re doing that on an MSF course, you’ll kill yourself on a faster bike out in the real world.

    Take it easy dude…
