Ok guys on my limited budget($1500) im finding it hard to find anything localy in my price range. A guy at work buys/rebuilds salvage bikes on the side..I guess he does a decent job as a bunch of guys at work have bought these bikes from him and ive heard no complaints and he does a lot of guys tuneups and inspections. Told him I was looking for a bike but told him I had a limited budget and he said he may be able for find a 500 GS or Ninja 500 if I can wait a while or for a little more $$$. He also said he could probably get a Ninja 250 and he knows he can get me into a Rebel 250 in my budget possibly a bit under(he did one for his wife he has about $1000 into and its a 2004).
So what is the concensus on the Rebel 250(i like the nighthawk better but for some reason its much more “rare” of a bike to find..i cant even find a DEALER that has one in stock to just look at) Im 5’10” 160 and im looking for it for a commuter(15 miles about 25 min each way to work in some hilly central PA hills) and to get up to 65MPH on the highway(65-70 mph is the normal speed limit on the highways in my area…you just dont normaly go 8+ MPH around here unless your begging for a ticket. and im in it for the MPG more than any of the speed/power aspect of a bike.
Id honestly rather have a GS500 or a ninja 500 but that said I may have to wait months to years for one in my price range localy. So whats your thoughts on the Rebel 250? Id never considered this bike till he told me about it as I liked the 250 Ninja over it(and still do) but I just figured id give it a fair shake before I just wrote it off.

Or was it general build and or well…what made you think that? I want to see if the reasons you may list are something I would be concerned about. I had not really thought much about it either till recently to be honest.

It jammed into neutral a lot of times and finding neutral from first gear was an exercise in futility. Rode the nighthawk the day before and that was a much easier ride.

I also prefer the nighthawk but since new is not a option ive NEVER seen a used one localy.

Could’ve been course owned being the issue, but then that’s not a pretty thing to hear as the MSF is supposed to maintain these bikes. Dents and stuff, sure, let them slide, but mechanical stuff, should be working for safety issues at least.
