After a brief ride today, I’ve decided that is just about time to winterize my bike and put it away for the winter. After 600 miles of riding, I’ve had lots of fun and learned quite a bit albeit still a new rider. The short lived warm front we’ve had is over and now the first frost is here. The temperatures are getting into the mid-low 30s each morning and riding home in that is not too pleasurable at all. I’m sure there will be a scant few good riding days left but thats unprediciable to find out in the fall. I remember last year seeing the deer activity start to increase about this time of year as well. I live in Upstate New York by the way.

What are some of the things I should do to winterize my bike. I’m currently keeping it covered inside a garage. I know there are many more here who’ve gone through the winterizing process. Help is appreciated.

Your MOM should be able to better help. One is putting Stabil or SeaFoam gas treatment in your tank. Getting a trickle down charger or the likes for your battery….. ummmmm… is all I got…. I am intending on riding mine til it gets to the freezing mark. So hopefully here in NC my bike won’t be sitting for more then a few days at a time.

Yesterday is a memory, tomorrow is a prediction, but today…… is a Bi**h

Search the internet for keywords “Winterize” and “Motorcycle”.

I was told to make sure you get your tires lifted off the garage floor also. You can buy lifters or you can use rugs to buffer the rubber from the cement.

Newer technology rubber shouldn’t need this. It used to be that if your car sat for long periods of time the tires would deform ( think 1950’s ). I don’t think this is true any longer.

but I’ll add it can’t hurt to do this if you are able to. I just know that the only thing I’ve ever seen this done to is my dad’s ’57 jaguar. And there are a lot of bikes and cars around me that get stored for the winter.

I say just buy some warmer clothes and keep on riding.

I looked into this and my suzuki manual told me to, clean the bike of all the dirt and bugs, polish up the chrome, put some vinyl protector on the seat, something about taking out spark plugs and putting in a tablespoon of oil and then put the spark plugs back in, change the oil, fill up the gas tank to full and put some stabilizer in there, and take out the battery, put in rags in the exhaust pipe so no critters move in.

I decided I’m going to clean her up, fill up the tank to full and add the stabilizer stuff, disconnect the battery, and stuff my open pipes with rags. Then in the spring, I’ll just do an oil change and be ready to go. I live in Illinois and I think I am going to winterize my bike this coming weekend. Boo hoo.
