I am the epitome of the newbie motorcycle enthusiast. I’m 19 and I’ve never even ridden on the back of one. No one in my family has ever owned or ridden one. My experience is what research I’ve done online and the one time I sat on an old, busted-up Katana 600.
However, I really want to learn to ride and to one day own a CBR600RR. For the foreseeable future, though, I’ll be saving my money for a new Ninja 250. And possibly learning some basics this summer from some experienced riders I know.
It may be cliché, but the whole concept of riding a motorcycle kinda calls to me. Maybe it’s the speed and adrenaline, maybe it’s the “freedom of the open road,” I don’t know. But right now, I want to learn to ride more than almost anything (the other would be marrying my girlfriend, but that’s another story for another night
So that’s me in a nutshell (help, I’m in a nutshell!). Feel free to chat me up!

I don’t think there is no wrong reason for wanting a motorcycle… whether you want to pose at *$ or become the next motogp star or just cruise on two wheels. I do think you should be proficient enough not to be dangerous to yourself or anyone else around you. With that said, welcome to the forums and enjoy this awesome thing we call motorcycling.

I went the new route, upgraded to a bigger bike, and am basically eating the large initial depreciation as I try to sell my 2009 Blast. Be sure to find out all of the dealer costs when comparison shopping (the prep and doc fees that you do not incur when buying used). Just something to think about

A friend keeps a Yamaha xs400 around just for the purpose of teaching new riders. It’s been dropped a lot, gas tank is banged up and the speedometer is entirely optional. Doesn’t work a lot of the time. But it runs well and is easy to manage, so it’s what he taught his daughters and his wife to ride on.
