Helmet lock question

On my Ninja 250 the helmet lock is placed so that if I use it the helmet will rest on the exhaust pipe. This can’t be good for the helmet. Is this only to be used for storage or will it not affect the helmet to rest there?

hrm… what year ninja? My buddy uses the helmet lock on his 2007 ninja and I don’t think it rests on the exhaust pipe… The 2007 and older ninjas having the dual exhaust system that is… How are you locking the helmet position-wise that is? And I guess, you could try to check under the seat if there’s some kind of hook where you can put your helmet rings over.

I made the mistake of not using the lock correctly the first few weeks, so my helmet hung very close to the pipe also. Now I know that the metal “D'” ring is what gets locked under the seat in the hook on the bike. That is what my problem was. Hope it helps.

if it is the 08 250, you only have an exhaust pipe on one side, so use the other side helmet lock :P

It is an “05 with the duel exhaust. I hang it from the D ring facing backwards and the lower edges of the helmet rest on the exhaust.

Is the side where the D-ring is closest to the top of the bike? Not sure what facing backwards really means. For my shoei, if I fasten the d-ring side of the helmet to my sv650s helmet fasteners under the seat, the visor points to the rear of the bike.

What bike? My buddie’s 07 ninja250 has a lock mechanism on the rear left side of the bike. My bike has 2 fasteners under the rear seat. Not sure what other makers do.

According to this thread, there is a trick with balancing it on the rear peg to keep it off of the muffler: http://forums.ninja250.org/viewtopic.php?p=594932#594932
