Hey guys I live in the New York area, I’ve been a reader of this webpage for a few weeks now, and today I finally made an account because I wanted to post and ask questions!
First of all I’m a NEWB! I’m in the market for a motorcycle and I don’t know if this is the place to ask… but here goes
I’m heavy and I’m tall… I’ve driven stick shift cars for years and I’m an avid bicycle rider so for some reason I think that gives me some sort of a head start (don’t know if that’s true). I’ve only been on a motorcycle once getting a lesson from my buddy (it was 1000cc Suzuki V-stream [if that’s the name of a bike]) but I didn’t ride for long because I read that a 600cc is too fast let aloan 1000cc so i really didn’t go anywhere.
ANYWAY, considering that I’m heavy (260 lbs) and i’m tall (6′ 2″) I was wondering what bike would suit my posture the best….
The only 2 bikes I was really considering were “Kawasaki Ninja 500” and “Suzuki GS500” because they’re often reccomended as beginner bikes and i’m certainly a beginner. My question is basically which bike will allow me to sit more upright… Again I’ve only been on the 1000cc suzuki V-stream which I thought was very comfortable as far as posture goes but I know the bike I wind up buying will be much smaller than that and I’m concerned that it will be horribly painful to sit on.
If anyone has any insight on which of those bikes (or another one) would best suit my tall/fat ass I would appreciate it very much!
Thanks and I look foward to meeting everyone,
G

It is a dual sport bike that some people use as a sport tourer (at least the one I know that rides it does). Also it is available with ABS. I’m probably not the best for advice on first bikes, being a newbie too, but the V-Strom 650 is based on the SV 650 which comes highly recommended here.
