ParticipantHey, wanted to say hi…
I don’t own a bike yet, as I’m still researching which one to start out with. I live in D.C., and have never ridden anything more than a quad before… I like the look of the honda rebel 250cc, but I’m not quite sure what to look for to make sure the ones I’ve found on craigslist or in the paper are worth buying. Mileage, etc.
Any advice for a wet-behind-the-ears noob?

ParticipantI’m new to the board and new to motorcycles but I wanted to say hi and welcome you here. I’m sure others will chime in but one thing I would suggest is taking an MSF (http://www.msf-usa.org/) class.

ParticipantIf you know someone who has experience with motorcycles or a moto mechanic, take them along with you. You should give it a good test ride as well. Obvious things to look for are leaks, loose suspension, bent frame/handlebars, etc. Ask for a maintenance history as well.

ParticipantWe require pictures… of your friend that is…
You really do want some one who has experience to go with you. There may be rider clubs in your area that you can get into contact with and someone might be willing to go with you. Bringing along someone else who’s new to motorcycling doesn’t really help you any in determining the bike’s health. In fact it might be worse as you’ll now have someone that may reinforce a bad decision.

ParticipantThat makes sense…
I’ve pretty much decided to just suck it up and get a new bike from the dealership, either an 07 or 08 Ninja250r. That way, it’s new so I know there’s nothing seriously wrong with it.

ParticipantThat is exactly what my thinking was, (i already bought one)
