Gear – what to look for

As a new biker, I’ve been wondering what I need to look for when getting my gear. It seems as though motorcycle gear is not really regulated at all (with the exception of helmets). So this leaves me lost in confusion on what I should be looking for. Especially now that there’s not only leather for an option, but there’s also the textiles as well. I’ve seen many different gear list how many Denier it is, but that means little to me because I don’t know what is better. It seems a higher Denier of one type of textile doesn’t necessarily hold up better than another type of textile with a lower Denier. Anyone have any suggestions they can give me on what I can look for in my first set of motorcycle gear so that I know what I’m getting is good?

If you are not comfortable in your gear you will not ware it! The best leather jacket with top end CE armor will not help you if you leave it at home because it drives you up the wall. The cheapest jacket in the world that you feel good in, will be better that a t shirt if something bad happens. I really like Icon and Shift both of these guys are committed to comfort and safety and they look just killer cool. Check out Ebay and newenough.com for cheap gear but always go to the local shop to try on the stuff so you get a good fit. Just my thoughts.
