What’s up all you bike nuts! I’m a 28 year-old Texas guy, who started lurking around this site a few months ago. I’ve been bitten by the riding bug like so many others on this website. This has been a great resource, by the way. Anyone thinking of picking-up the motorcycling habit should stop here first!

I’d love to take my MSF and start riding immediately, but I do have a family, and we’re in the process of buying a house currently. So, I’m putting this time to good use by doing all of the research I can about motorcycling. My riding will consist mostly of commuting to work at first, and then some group riding after I get more comfortable. I’m not even sure what type of bike I’d like(sport or cruiser). I wish there were still some good standards (Honda CB650, etc.) still around. There are a lot of guys I work with who ride cruisers of varying makes. There’s things about sportbikes and cruisers that I like, so I’m pretty open at this point.

I’m about 6’1″, 250lbs., so I’d like to get something around 500cc’s. Not many options in cruisers in that size, but a few sport/standards. I’ve recently been interested in the Ninja 500. I understand that the 500’s riding postion is more upright than most pure sport bikes. Is that the case?

Look forward to talking to y’all more!

I’m in Bedford right now, probably will be moving to NW Tarrant county soon. Which is a shame, b/c a MSF course is literally right down the street from me!

I live in the Lewisville area here, right off of 35E and will be taking the MSF course at the very high school I will be attending for my senior year, they even got mad at me a few months ago when my car broke down in the middle of the parking lot, which was also the middle of the course :) from then on I’ve had the itch to take the course and not break down in any more high school parking lots. We even play katy in a non-district football game this year!!!

The Suzuki GS500F and Kawasaki Ninja 500R are more of a standard then sportbike. If a standard is what you want, you can’t go wrong with either one of those bikes. I personally started out on a Suzuki SV650 naked/standard and haven’t had any problems with it. I would say that my bike is pretty much the highest end of the “beginner bike” spectrum and anything bigger would be a VERY bad idea for a beginner. A long time ago when I first decided on getting a bike I was looking into possibly getting a Honda VFR for my first. I probably would have killed myself/damaged the bike on it. I still do plan on getting one though one day =)
