I am looking to purchase my first motorcyle but need some extra opinions on what would be best. I have taken the MSF class and have expierence riding my brother-in-laws CBR1000, yes he is a good brother, I got the same reaction from the teachers of the class. I am comfortable riding it but would prefer something smaller. He recomends a 600 of various types and used for my first one.

a 600 or below would do you well. Check out the reviews here on BBM.

If you’re comfortable on the CBR you might want to check out the GXR 750 which has the ability to change between 500, 650 & 750cc’s I believe. it also has a slips clutch. I personally haven’t looked into it but was told good things about it.

Your brother gave you pretty sound advice. The Ninja 600 would probably be near the top of the recommendation list. There are quite a few of them on the used market, which helps you out. I’d steer clear of the CBR600 for a couple of years, and I’m completely ignorant of the Yamaha offerings.
