I’ve been thinking about getting a motorcycle, reading as much as I can, notably this site. When the time comes that I have money to buy a bike, I’m entirely unsure what to get. It seemed to me that a Ninja 250 would be good, but my mom’s boyfriend thinks otherwise. He’s an engineer by trade and seems to think that I should get something with more power. He himself rides a Hayabusa, which is way in the other direction as far as power goes. So while I’ve figured on a Ninja 250, he thinks otherwise, and I do trust him.

Any advice on the situation would be very much appreciated.

If he thinks you should start on a hayabusa, you should not trust him anymore.

I’m riding an sv650s as my first bike. It’s recommended a lot as a first time more powerful bike. I’d have to agree with some caveats. But, you should probably ask him his reasons for why going with a 250cc bike is a bad idea. I’m guessing he’s probably thinking you’ll outgrow it…

The outgrowing factor is probably big on the list of reasons not to get one. And I’m sure he doesn’t think I should start on a Hayabusa.
