ParticipantI’m so stoked, I brought my first bike home today, an ’84 Virago 700, from the shop after a 2 week safety check turned into some minor repairs. Glad I had the check done, turns out the fuel petcock(sp?) was not operating correctly. I had stalled her right across from the shop!!! Glad to know it wasn’t ALL operator error.
Took a 10 mile route home today. Got a chance to ride in some low to moderate traffic on a few busy surface streets, a few curved backroad roads and 2 small hills to get home… even had to do a U-turn. White-knuckled it at first, but finally settled down and enjoyed the ride. I was amazed at how much I really had learned from the Begining MSF course, i think it as the best investment I have made thus far. I found myself going through all the acronyms and “keeping my head up” during the ride.
I know I still have a lot to learn, first thing tomorrow, I’m hitting the empty parking lot. Hoping to do my first commute (50 mi round trip) by mid August. Will post pics tomorrow.. Thanks BBM for the awesome support. Looking forward to learning more from the vets here and can’t wait to start adding some meaningful musings of my own.

ParticipantCongrats! Awesome thing when you finally get to ride….and look outside and know that it is your own ride isn’t it. No more looking out your cage on your way to work being jealous of the person on the bike beside ya….
Now…. flip side…. those really gorgeous mornings you ride to work and realize that your destination is not a longer stretch of road…. yea I hope you love your job…. it’s fixing to get knocked down to “like” my job….lol
Oh yea…. and save gas money….your 50 mile round trip to and from work….. yea that’s gonna get doubled and tripled quite a few times.

ParticipantMunch… yer the best.. I’m trying to wait till 830 to fire her up and “go get gas”… my neighbors were blown away yesterday when they heard her coming. Luckily, there are a few Harleys in the neighborhood, so they’re use to it. I am starting to realize the other part of why people ride, BEAUTIFUL! Like I said, I sail small boats and that ride yesterday is about as close as i’ve come to feeling that way on land.
Posting pics in the pic forum now.

ParticipantGlad to have you out there with us. Those old Virago’s are great bikes and should give you miles of enjoyment. Ride safe and God bless.
