After the longest wait in history, finally took the plunge and got myself a Versys. Managed to get a few miles in before a horrible storm blew through and brought an end to the days fun. Didn’t really plan on my first ride being in winds gusting to 50mph in the pouring rain when I have not scrubbed the tires yet. Was a bit more exciting than I had planned.
Anyways, here are the pics….
“What’s this lever for?”February 13, 2011 at 2:24 am #29230ranetteParticipantCongrats, and best of luck with the new wheels. Did you trade in the MP3 or do you have the beginnings of a stable?
February 13, 2011 at 2:30 am #29231eonParticipantStill have the MP3. It’s having issues with the steering bearings so it came close to being sent to the knackers yard but I decided to hold onto it. It’s great for shopping runs and commuting in Seattle’s fine weather.

After this season mine is paid for and I can start the hunt for whats next
February 13, 2011 at 5:56 am #29233madjak30ParticipantCongrats on the new toy!! Just remember to treat it like you are new to riding…because you are, new to riding “it”…not to mention the increase in performance available… ;-p
Love the new colour…very nice…can’t wait to see some vids of the new wheels…
Later.
February 13, 2011 at 7:46 am #29234Gary856ParticipantCongrats, Eon! By all account it’s a very nice bike. Many people are not keen on its looks but I think it looks great, kind of Super-KLR-ish, or a poor-man’s F650GS. I may eventually get one to replace my SV650.
February 13, 2011 at 8:28 am #29235eternal05ParticipantSuper happy for you! I know that bike was a long time coming. Enjoy the hell out of it, and welcome to the clutch club
February 13, 2011 at 12:54 pm #29236bigguybbrParticipantWas the scoot an auto? If so, that’ll be a new distraction. Enjoy being able to down shift to dial up more power, and also being able to engine brake, along with mis-shifting, false neutrals, and the occasional stall…
On the plus side, larger tires and more suspension travel will help to soak up the bumps and give better traction.
February 13, 2011 at 4:18 pm #29237eonParticipantYup, scoot was/is an auto. I didn’t do too badly at shifting but I’ve got a long way to go to be smooth. Also got to think about which gear to be in now before a corner, that will take a little time I think. One problem I am having which I knew would be an issue is my throttle control. Scoot was so vague I could be very ham fisted and it did not matter, on this it matters. Got lots to relearn.
Gary, I agree with you on the looks. When I first saw one I thought it was pig ugly. Great body, shame about the face. Didn’t really get my attention till I saw one fitted out like an ADV bike with Trax luggage and hand guards. Started reading up on them after that and read nothing but great reviews on them, won motorcycle of the year from MCN a few years back (maybe even twice, not sure). When it got a face lift last year it clinched it for me as now I think even the front looks good. It has to grow on you but I now like it.
Sweet riding day here today!! But first I got to wait for my hangover to go away, dammit
February 13, 2011 at 9:45 pm #29238bigguybbrParticipantNo riding here on the east coast.
The snow bank in front of my house is still about 3 1/2 feet tall. My driveway still has about 2″ of ice over the entirety. I can’t even get the 350z out of the garage that is currently blocking my bike in, so riding is a total no go here.
Hope it warms up soon…
On a side note, I had no idea how expensive the Piaggio MP3 500cc was. Man, the versys must seem like a bargain after that!
February 14, 2011 at 4:43 am #29239eonParticipantYeah, the scooter was not cheap. The price made me think long and hard about buying it but this was 2 years ago at the peak of the gas prices. Couldn’t find bikes for love nor money at that time. I really wanted the new look Ninja 250 but there was no telling when I would get it. I happened to live next door to the Vespa dealer at the time and the scooter was available and my patience had run out. I figured the extra cost would pay for itself if the extra wheel prevented me from a trip to the ER. Never did go there so who knows, it might have worked.
Sorry to hear you can’t get riding. We had an amazing day here, probably got into the 50’s with blue skies. Felt like spring was just around the corner. Course it didn’t last and it is raining heavily again but I did get a great day riding in. Here’s hoping for a thaw for you soon.
February 14, 2011 at 8:08 am #29240eternal05ParticipantHow you taunt us.
I got caught unexpectedly in a downpour a few days ago (or was it just yesterday?) on what at first appeared to be a nice clear day. The weather gods saw me getting cocky and had to set me straight.
February 14, 2011 at 3:42 pm #29241madjak30ParticipantOr should I say “the Wet Coast”, there is a reason they celebrate nice clear weather…they so rarely get them…land of gray sky, mist, fog and rain…I used to live in Vancouver, BC…all I really remember is that from October to March…rain…almost everyday (beautiful in the summer though)…you get used to it and it isn’t that big of deal, but I like my blue sky and being dry without having to gear up…
Yes, I am jealous!! 10 months of riding is way better than six…
Congrats on the bike again, I wish I could be decisive enough to get something…maybe I am still happy with my current bike and just don’t want to admit it??
Later.
February 16, 2011 at 12:15 am #29242kirkParticipantNice bike! Congrats!
February 18, 2011 at 4:57 am #29244EddiepowerfmParticipantnice color, it loooks great.
