Has anyone here taken the ERC? I’d like to take another class this year but would really like to do it on my own bike. I’ve read in various places that in order to take the ERC you should have 2-3 years experience, which I don’t. However on the MSF site it simply says that the ERC is “designed for riders who are already licensed and frequently ride” which does describe me. In my BRC I was one of the stronger riders, if I were taking the ERC I would only hope to not hold up the rest of the class. Anyone out there with firsthand experience?

As the shoe says, just Do It.

I took the ERC 10 months (6 of those being winter) after my BRC. I had just shy of 1000kms on my bike, and my Dads.

I found the course to be totally worth while.

Others in the course had taken the BRC in september, gotten their bikes in October (and winterized at the end of October) and had less than 300kms on their bikes. They still did really well and found it very useful.

The ERC is a great way to learn your new bike.

Seriosuly, if you enjoyed the BRC, doing the ERC on your own bike will be twice as rewarding.

I think the recommendation is at least 6 months and 3000 miles. I will be taking it in a few weeks so I can let you know my impressions of it. From what I have read it is really a compressed BRC (without the class time) where they reinforce what you learned on the BRC. Now that you’ve had time to get comfortable with the basics and start developing bad habits, hopefully they will catch that put you back on the right path. At least, that’s my impression from reading about it. If nothing else you get to spend some 1-on-1 time with an instructor so it can’t be bad.

Thanks for the feedback. I have about 1000 miles on my 150cc scooter and 1200 miles on my Ducati. I probably won’t be able to ride until May 1st but will try to get in a good number of miles and take an ERC that is scheduled for May 31st.
