In my life I’ve ridden almost exclusively off-road with most of my time spent on friends/relatives CRF250R, CRF450R and CRF230L dirt bikes (the family seems to like Honda).

I live close to the North Georgia mountains and am thinking about buying a Dual Sport so I can get to/from the trailheads with a street legal bike.

I’m 5′ 6″ and weight 155 lbs so I don’t think I need anything too heavy or with huge displacement. I’ve been weighing the pros and cons of the Kawasaki KLX250S (read the review here) and the Yamaha WR250R.

I was wondering if anyone here has ridden the Yamaha and/or could review both side by side. From what I’ve seen so far, the Kawi is a bit taller, slower, cheaper…

    Anything to add?

Sorry, obviously not many people here have Dual Sports. There is one guy who has I think a 400cc Suzuki, but thats about it. I’m sure you would have more luck on DS specific sites. Let us know what you find.

The extra suspension and ground clearance of dual sports typically mean that they have a tall seat height. It might be tough to find a good fit at 5’6″. For whatever it’s worth, I love my Kawi Versys, but its stock configuration is definitely aimed at spending the bulk of the time on paved roads.
