ParticipantI heard about a lady local to me killed riding her bike at night on a state route by hitting a deer.
The first thing that came to mind is out-riding your light.
Second thought was —
Are those deer whistles for cars any good on 2-wheels?May 23, 2009 at 12:57 am #18862Munch
ParticipantNext question…are they any good on 4? I have never seen them work… heck I just got through taking snap shots of 6 behind the house. If they are already that close to the road chances are their sensitivity to odd noises is way down. Not only that but just like most noises the sound is very much on a delay…. you will hear it better behind you then in front of you. By the time thier echo location type hearing catches up to you it’s likely to late.

ParticipantThe wikipedia page I could find on deer whistles said they didn’t work.
And everyone knows Wikipedia could never be wrong.
Flush my idea down the toilet. Don’t forget to spray.

ParticipantNot a matter of outdriving the headlights as it is the deer jumping from the side of the road unannounced.

Participantwhat you should do… is get a speaker that plays predator’s growling [like mountain lions and bears]. maybe they would run away from the road then.

ParticipantFear not, the stock horn of the Ninja 250 strikes terror into man or beast…

Participant*meep*meep*
And no, I don’t think they (deer “sirens”) really work…
Besides… is the “frequency” of those chinese things attuned to the deers audio hearing only?
Mind you, that’s just my thoughts and opinion.
And yeah, I had them on my car when I had one, when I lived in Missouri… On the roads in my lil’ town and on the roads to the airport going to work, I didn’t see that many deers… but they were there.
