Anyone else hitting the show in Cleveland? I’ll be there tomorrow (Sunday). Can’t wait! Planning to check out the following new models:
    Triumph Tiger 800
    Yamaha FZ8
    Kawasaki Z1000 and Ninja 1000

I went to the car show in Portland yesterday, they had some bikes there. Nothing too new, nothing I haven’t seen before wandering around the dealership. Some really cool carts there tho.

…but they both have the ugliest, fattiest exhausts ever. That’d be the first thing to go if I got one. Otherwise, they’re comfortable and not-too-heavy feeling for literbikes. The Ninja 1000 even has an adjustable windscreen. You can raise it up to block more wind on a long road trip or you can lower it down to lower the bike’s drag. Kind of a neat feature I guess.

Here are my thoughts following the show…
1- The Triumph Tiger800 is NOT for me. It is still too big for my tastes. Not as big as the original Tiger 1050, but still big.
2- The Yamaha FZ8 felt great while sitting on it. My concern is that the tail-light set up looks and feels very cheap made. I’ve always felt the same about their FZ6R as well. I’m not sure if it would take much abuse before it would just break off. Their accompanying brochure has some good aftermarket suggestions, and I would want the center stand and wind screen.
3- The Ninja 1000 is still my dream bike. Looks and feels awesome. I’d hate to see the insurance quote, though.
    4- Although I don’t intend to get a 250, Honda’s new CBR250R felt pretty sweet.

I sure wish BMW attended these things! I’d like to see their new F800R. Maybe it’s starting to get old since this was my 3rd show, but I didn’t stay as long this year as in the past. It didn’t help that I had a lot of other things going on that day to think about. The most entertaining thing of the day was the live music on stage at the food court. They were singing a song about a dead skunk on the road. :-D

    WHACHU SAY BOUT MY FZ6R!?!?!?

Ha ha j/k It does have some oddities like fake ram air scoops, but otherwise over 10k miles the bike has been pretty bullet-proof. Haven’t had to do anything but basic maintenance and a throttle body sync. It’s a nice beginner friendly bike especially for someone big like myself (6’5″+) because of the ergonomic ajustments and because it has really linear, predictable power delivery, and enough torque that it’ll resist stalling out unless you really dump the clutch. It’s been plenty comfortable for the rides to laconia and americade, plenty of fun in the twisties, and it’ll move when you want it to.

Anywhoo AMEN! to the new Ninja 1000. I love everything about that except the underside where the exhaust looks like something from an old yard sale. Why couldn’t they have sprayed it black like they did on the FZ6R? Oh well, maybe after I finish paying for the yami (and pay of the credit cards)…
