“clean” smoke question

‘Nother questions for ya’ll.
My roommates bike has some clean smoke (for lack of a better expression) that comes off the engine/body itself. I do recall being informed that the exhaust will have exhaust that should be whitish and if it turns blue you haven’t turned the choke down. But this is off the engine itself and its whitish rather than black and pouring black oil smoke… that being said the collective ‘we’ of the complex (all 4 of us who ride)
think its burning a little bit of oil off the engine block itself…. and we just got the bike back from the shop for its once over post purchase exam- and oil/fluids change and the fall prep stuff that they do when they whisk said bike to the rear of the store. They didn’t say anything about it and the bike doesn’t smoke while being ridden but it does seem to take a hot minute to go away and its a big disconcerting to watch a bike sit there and smoke while you are waiting for it to warm up.But my roommate asked if I would ask you illustrious folks if you had any other idears. So I’m asking if there are any other thoughts on this. The bike runs reasonably well- its tempermental to start if you don’t have the choke just right but past that this seems to be the biggest ‘issue’.
Thanks!

“Need more input!”December 4, 2009 at 3:13 am #23597irencoParticipantthere was a topic where someone post this link. on the page it says that if you blip it to the redline and blue/grey smoke comes out, it means wear on the engine. then, you have to put a white paper in front of the exhaust and blip it again. if oil comes out, it means excessive wear on the engine.

I wiped it off as much as I could, but there was still a film of oil left on the header. When I started the bike after the oil change, as the bike warmed up some smoke came out from the engine area up to the dash area, and the smoke looked pretty dramatic in the headlight as I back the bike out of my garage, but soon dissipated. The smoke didn’t have a strong odor. The same thing happened again the next day when I started the bike. In all it took about 3 rides before I stop seeing the smoke coming out from the engine area at start up; I think the oil film finally evaporated completely.

I’d say 2/3 of the time- we aren’t out enough for me to give a more specific answer. I’ll try to pin that down this weekend for you.Is is more of a steam rather then “smoke”.
Pretty confident its a smoke not a steamWhere does it seem to emanate from, near exhaust couplers, close to a coolant line, etc.
Will try to narrow that down- the two of them got hands down face full with it- I didn’t.As a robot named Number 5 would say
“Need more input!”Could be an oil issue on the headers- I’m not 110% if the shop got oil all over her bike I suspect they would have done a similar job on mine and i have no issue. But it could be. I’ll get in there and look it over today- hopefully I’ll get to ride today and we can have a closer look.
