so yeah.. went shopping and came home with a vin number…
I tried some of the 250’s, talked to several dealers, sat on a whole bunch (even lots that were way out of price or performance range) to get a good idea…
damn you Suzuki for not making the TU250X in a 400cc!! {shakes fist}…
Anyway, I now own a spanking new Suzuki Gladius (blue/white model)…
the plan is to cruise around my little hometown on it with its 2 traffic lights and stop sign on every second corner so I can get the hang of shifting/braking, and abusing local church parking lots for low speed practice living on a hill gives me a nice safe place to practice hill starts… anyway I’m supposed to keep the revs low for break in period…
the nice thing is I’ll have the power to get over the mountains but it didn’t feel like it wanted to take off with a slight breath on the throttle, it was a nicely controlled acceleration. I think that’s to do with the vtwin underneath instead of an inline four.
the display seems so much nicer/more info than the kaw er5n too.
I know its probably up or beyond on the scale as far as beginner bike recommendations go, but I plan to treat it with respect it deserves and take things easy.

Engine is pretty much the same, with the same throttle behavior and power profile — great low-end power. I actually rarely get over 5K rpm unless I’m on the freeway on my SVs. You’ll be able to cruise at 3000-3500 rpm for a LOT of miles.

September 8, 2009 at 10:01 pm #22247JackTradeParticipant…Be interested to know how you like it, over time.
I’m looking at the Gladius for my next bike (currently ride a Buell P3 Blast, which I got used as a first bike), along with the Kawasaki ER-6N…though I haven’t ruled out a Buell XB9SX.
I love the gauges on the Gladius…exactly what good gauges should look like!
September 9, 2009 at 12:57 am #22249stuParticipantthe er6n had a lower seat height of like 1/4 inch, but they could have had the rear preload dialed different than the gladius (they were next to each other in the shop). I did not like the gauges on the er6n at all.
