ParticipantOkay, I can’t afford a new bike right now and I’d really like to learn on a used one anyway. But I can’t find a Rebel anywhere! Wow! I read the other posts about how hard it is to find one and now I’m a believer.
The worse part is… I found a couple of “experienced” Rebels (1981-1982) but they want 2x the blue book value. Ouch! I want to avoid being ripped off but I also don’t want to have to pay 2x what the bike is worth. Or am I not being realistic? I was looking on Craigs List, Cycle Trader, Ebay and a bunch of others. Craig’s List seems to be the worst at price gouging.
Let me know what ya’ll think…. just be gentle – this is my first time! LOL

ParticipantCareful on Ebay, I’ve made good buys on “stuff”, but just bid on a bike I suspect the seller is trying to go around ebay. He’s been a member for 7 years…and has a (0) rating,,,says he never sold or bought anything before. I’m suspicious. I have a feeling he’ll be contacting me ‘outside’ ebay to talk deal. I dropped a bid at the last 3 seconds and it didn’t show up, and the last bid did not meet his reserve. Anybody have experience with this before???

ParticipantI would suggest you stick with craigslist over ebay. since its local and not an auction you have the chance to see/ sit/ ride the bike before you commit to spending money on it. If there are no Rebels on it now just keep an eye on there and a nice one at a fair price should show up, just be patient. If you like the rebel you could also look for virago250 (vstar) or gz250 or one of the other lower cc size bikes listed on this site.
Good luck to you.

Participantin northern Wisconsin they are very hard to come by. I did read somewhere that Honda is going to substantially increase the production of Rebels and other smaller sized bikes for 09. If you can wait you can probably get a new one in a couple of months. Check with various dealers in the area about wait times and prices.

ParticipantTheres a dealer in southern WI at Elkhorn (www.cycleplusinc.com) that looks to have a few 250cc bikes for anyone close enough. Website says they will ship. Rebel’s, Virago’s and some older 500cc bikes.
