Currently in the market for the 2008 OR 2009 Kawasaki Ninja 250R. Read great reviews about it. Just wanted to get to know the community a bit better.
Planning on taking the course in the Fall as classes are always booked!

around, I want it caught and shot now…June 27, 2008 at 2:59 am #7938numba1 b seriesParticipantOh I’m already signed up for it.
I need an opinion though..I just visited the Kawasaki dealership and put a deposit down for the ’09 Ninja 250R.
Now this is going to be my first bike so I am choosing to get a slow bike.
But problem is…I am beginning to have doubts about this bike.
The MSRP is $3,500 and the total price Out the door is $4,800.
It may not be a lot to some…but for a college student…it’s going to be endless hours of work and sacrificing some classes as I am paying my way through school.
Any opinions? Positive or negative will help.

That said, it seems that money is the real issue here. It’s called “buyers remorse”, and pretty much everyone who has put money down on something and not yet received it has buyers remorse.
So! You can either suck it up and buy it (and I’m sure you’ll love the bike), or you can go back to the dealer and either see if he’ll give you your money back, or perhaps have something less expensive in a used bike that you can apply your deposit to instead. Maybe they’ll be open to giving you a a store credit for a future new or used bike purchase if the other two options don’t work out.
MSF course is an absolute pre-requisite to riding a motorcycle in my opinion.
Meantime, you should buy or borrow (from the library?) the book “Complete Idiots Guide to Motorcycles” (no offence intended – it’s a great primer on all things motorcycle), “How to Ride a Motorcycle” by Pat Hahn, and/or “Motorcycling Exellence” (the MSF book; 2nd Edition is best).
“Proficient Motorcycling” by David L. Hough is also a great book for more advanced riders.
Try “www.Half.com”, etc. for used book bargains.

For the dealer giving back my deposit…I will see to it that I get my deposit back.
June 27, 2008 at 5:41 am #7946numba1 b seriesParticipantBTW…if the ad is set $3,500 MSRP….tax included is generally $4,100 Out the door.
I’m just a bit skeptical at this dealership’s prices.
June 27, 2008 at 3:17 pm #7965megaspazParticipantThe rest of the price is probably first year registration, un-crating and assembly service fees, and docking and transport fees. Pretty common practice. But 4100 otd for a ’08/’09 ninja 250 seems pretty good. Over here, I’ve been seeing people buying ’08 ninja 250s for 4900.00 or higher. Supply and demand…

And here I thought I was getting ripped off.
I’m not sure if it’s even worth getting the 250R for that price though.
June 27, 2008 at 9:25 pm #7977shagglesParticipantThe dealer might be able to get you in to a class even if it’s “full”. Of course they may not want to if you’re going to ask for your deposit back.
June 27, 2008 at 9:42 pm #7982numba1 b seriesParticipantWhat do you mean into a class? As in the MSF course?
I already have that schedule in the Fall.
