Hey everyone looking for a little input,
Due to rising gas prices I’m in the market for my first street bike and I really like the looks of the Hyosung gt250r and the Kawasaki Ninja 250r. From what I have read online a 250cc bike is a good place to start for a sport bike, but the kicker is that I weigh in at about 290 lbs and I’m not sure if a 250 can handle that. Also my girlfriend is interested in riding on the back from time to time and shes going to add another 110 lbs to that. I’m not looking to go very fast, it’s mainly for around town, going back and forth to work, I’d say cruising at 45-55 mph tops the majority of the time. Do you think that a 250cc sport bike would be able to accomplish this?
I had thought about going with the hyosung gt650r but for one its a little out of the range of what i wanted to spend, and the fact that its a 650 and this is my first street bike kind of makes me shy away from it. I also don’t really want to go used because I know very little about bikes so I would like to get a new bike with a warranty. Thanks for any input, I cant find a solid answer about this.

Maybe take a look at the ninja 500, or the GS500. Either of those bikes would make great starter bikes (My first bike was a 2002 gs500).

It hauls me around with no issues and I was surprised at the amount of power it has for a 250. I keep getting told that I’ll be bored on it in no time, but I plan to upgrade to a 600 in a season or two, I just needed somthing to learn all the basics on. It also doesn’t hurt that the bike looks great too. The dealer tried to sell me on an 07 left over because it was like 3-4 hundred less but after seeing both the 07 and 08 side by side I couldnt turn down the newer model even at a higher cost. Very pleased with my new bike.

I imagine they’re a blast on curvy roads as well.
