I’ve been reading on this site for several weeks now and have heeded some and not other advice. I took the MSF (Harley Rider’s Edge) course, obtained my license, bought good gear, and lamented for too long over the bike. Not being crazy about sport bikes, I limited myself to cruisers. Through all of the articles here, other online and print resources, and friend, family and dealer advice I decided on the Vulcan 900 Classic. It was delivered today and I logged a very brief first ride.
First impressions are as follow: Beautiful bike, low center of gravity and felt nimble at speed (but much heavier than the Buell Blast and noticeable when slow), power was not intimidating but there is plenty, and riding on the street is much different from an MSF parking lot course. I plan to keep it in the neighborhood and parking lots for a while before I venture into the real world.
I just have to say that I am still pinching myself and that this is going to leave a mark.

I say venture out into the street. You’ll gain more different riding environment experiences than riding in a parking lot. But don’t skip parking lot drills. They’re great for practicing things you’ve learned.

around, I want it caught and shot now…June 5, 2008 at 2:18 am #7034jacksonParticipantI did make two passes outside the neighborhood on my ride but found tailgaters on both. I plan to be there soon.
