According to the March 2011 issue of Motorcyclist magazine, Aprilia is going to sell a 125cc 4-stroke streetbike in the US this year, with a top speed of 78 mph. Below is the 2-stroke version for sale for track use only (the exhaust pollution is not EPA legal):

When we went on vacation to Panama City Beach in Florida about a year ago, a company was renting 125cc Aprilia 2-strokes or various scooters for people on vacation- I do not think the 2-strokes are street legal in California for public roads, because they burn oil, but the new 125cc 4-stroke should be legal for California roads.
If I had a lot of money, I might get one of these for short trips and stunts (not for a beginner):

Unfortunately I agree that they probably won’t sell well. There is only 1 Aprilia dealership here….and people don’t go there for 125’s, the smallest they go there for is the Monster 696. If they were to sell them in some of the scooter stores however…..
