…when doing something for the first time. Heck, it took me 6 months of riding before I took my bike on the highway. I’ve still yet to do so during heavy traffic (though around here that would mean almost parking lot speeds). I had to keep reminding myself to relax while riding, as I’d find my entire upper body getting tense (not good for fast reactions). I’m almost to where 65-70mph isn’t a “fearful” thing.

Thanks for the posting. It’s been interesting to read everyone’s responses.
My take is that fear = a desire to keep yourself and others out of harm’s way, and that’s a good thing.
Elias, if your fear is so great that it’s preventing you from riding a motorcycle, then that’s fine. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that. I honestly wish that there were more people like you in the world who are responsible and mature enough to put safety ahead of thrills.
My pregnant wife commutes 2 and a half hours a day. If some rider caused her to get into an accident because they were behaving like a squid… well let’s just say that I honestly believe that there is a place in hell for people like that… and for people like me because I’d have to kill them.

This ‘limbo’ time has forced me to do research and dream about it. In all this research and dreaming, I decided to prepare myself as best as I possibly can, by learning from other people’s mistakes, and learn how to be a safe rider before I even get a bike. I’m not too afraid to ride (the MSF was 98% fun, 2% fear), but I am definitely well prepared to be a safe rider. Hell, I aced the MSF tests, with no major prior motorcycle experience. My fear and I are ready.
