So I’ve passed my MSF class and gotten my M1 license. I went into my local dealership looking for a black 08 ninja 250r and they wanted to charge me $5313 out the door. And that was talked down from $5500. He said the bike was 3499 but there were a bunch of associated fees. Is this really a fair price or should I look elsewhere
July 22, 2008 at 2:00 am #9070CBennettParticipantseems like a lot to me..what takes a extra almost $2000 that they have to do?
July 22, 2008 at 2:13 am #9073AzN LogiKParticipantw/ all the fees (on top of msrp) should come out to like $3800ish
July 22, 2008 at 2:27 am #9074ShannonGParticipantI hope he bought you dinner first. You know, before he bent you over that barrel…..
July 22, 2008 at 2:40 am #9078JebGuestI would demand to know what ‘associated costs’ add up to $2k. I want to get one, but my credit isn’t that great so I may have to try for one of the hard to find bad credit loans for motorcycles or something, but I don’t plan on paying any higher than 4k for this guy with T,T,&T. Sadly, even if I get him, I won’t be able to use him until I get some more gear. Which color do you think is better btw, blue or black?
July 22, 2008 at 3:50 am #9082AndrewParticipantYou in CA by any chance? I’ve heard of up to 2K in other fees in CA based on demand. The bikes are a hot commodity and the dealers take advantage of it.

I know it is common that for a new car registration and fees and all that usually add up to around 10% of the cost of the car, is this not the same for bikes?
Well I definately told the guy I wasn’t paying 5300 for a bike with an MSRP of 3500.
Has anyone on here bought a 250R in southern california? and what did you pay?
July 22, 2008 at 4:29 am #9088ShaneParticipantI dont’ think anything is ever cheaper out here in California….except for ocean water.

But seriously, I’d exhaust all options for getting a used bike first. I just got my buddy’s Honda Shadow 2004 for 4300 and he just got his replacement Honda VTX 1300 for 6000 even! If we’re finding deals on good used bikes, you can too!

July 22, 2008 at 7:04 pm #9115DougieGuestI walked on a dealership because they wouldn’t give me an exact price…they said around 5k.
I ended up getting my bike for 4,500 otd from another place. Right now there is no bargining for these bikes, the dealer knows that just cause you won’t pay 5,300 the next guy will, and does, the next day in most cases.
keep looking, pay what you are comfortable paying and call it done. I was fine with 4,500 because i know demand is high and i wanted the bike bad enough to justify the extra thousand over MSRP. 600 dollar destination/shipping is crap, but while i was there 2 other people looked at the bike. No one can tell you what’s too expensive to you, everyones spending limits are different.July 22, 2008 at 11:43 pm #9127nau_lax21Participantwell i just got a quote if 4300 from the dealer closest to campus, so looks like i wont be buying a bike til i get back to az in about a month.
