After not managing to get anything other than day trips last year this year I am determined to go a bit further afield. Lot’s of potential trips to choose from. I have a friend talking about heading up Vancouver Island and on into Alsaka. There are some long time riders here who reckon the best roads in WA are in the south east corner of it. They have a week long trip planned to have some fun there. But I will probably go on a tour of Oregon in June. The guy leading that trip has shown me some of the best roads around here so I have no doubt that will be fun. And I’ve been wanting to see Crater Lake for a while now. But the trip that is getting me excited is a trip back to the homeland (Scotland) in September. Going back for a wedding but decided to rent a bike and go tour the Highlands while I am there. Looks like I will have two of my brothers with me and maybe a nephew as well. I know the scenery and roads there are fantastic but this will be my first time seeing them from a bike. Cannot wait.
Here is one of the roads I plan on seeing

But this year I’ll settle for Oregon. The trip is being organized by Soundrider.com. I think he’s charging $100 for leading the tour. Apart from that it’s gas, food and lodging. Will know more in a couple of weeks when he posts more details. Something to consider if you cannot make the 2 week trip.

so I’ll probably be lame and throw sophia in the truck and ride when I get there… but the thought totally has crossed my mind and was super tempting.

Just wouldnt’ sit right- if my roommate were going to be home and would be willing to trek out there- would be a different story but I’ll be all by myself and my roommate will be in like Abu Dahbei- so no back up for me if shit goes south.
and I’m broke as a joke- so paying for 3 hotel rooms (Fri, Sat, Sun) plus 2 more for there and back really racks up and I’m barely making ends meet now.
If I get a second job and can swing the bills I’ll consider it but riding that far just isn’t in the budget at this point.
But I WANNNNNA one day do a trip like that! Was planning on riding to Ohio to visit a friend who got me into riding. That’ll I ride too- stop in Pittsburgh and visit then head to Ohio. One day.
Thanks for the link though! totally going to spend some time on there!

Should be quite interesting.
Around 15 hours drive on a ninja 250r
My poor ass!

I don’t think I’m going to do any long trips this summer. Just scoot around the valley and get some more experience.
The ride through Scotland looks like a blast.

Lots of fun twisty roads up there, and it’s a ton of fun during Americade. I’m also trailering the bikes up there for a camping trip on the lake (thats right ON the lake, you can rent the tiny islands on the lake to camp on, lots of fun with biking and boating)
I’m also planning on hitting up Laconia this year, never done it as I only started riding last March, and I couldn’t be more excited.
I’m planning on trailering the bikes up to Bar Harbor Maine, and taking a few lazy days to ride around Mount Dessert Island.
Lastly i’m planning a ride I saw in a magazine last year following rt 7 starting in danbury ct all the way up to Highgate Vermont, about 300 something miles with lots of fun sights to see along the way.
February 5, 2010 at 3:16 am #24404IBA270ParticipantYou said trailering twice…
Stop that!
February 5, 2010 at 1:49 pm #24415bigguybbrParticipantI don’t want to trailer the bikes, but unfortunatly the boss (aka social director / girlfriend) isn’t into riding for more than a few hours at a time. It has been communicated to me that either we trailer the bikes, or we don’t go That might change a little when she sells her suzuki s40 and gets her sportster.
Also, I have yet to figure out how to carry a canoe on the bike
February 5, 2010 at 5:10 pm #24419IBA270ParticipantWhy does she need to go? Kidding!
“I broke my wife in slowly…I’m planning on going to ‘X’. You’re more than welcome to come along, in fact I’d love for you to come. I’m riding, and leaving ‘Y’. ” She decided that sometimes she likes to go and sometimes she doesn’t.
February 8, 2010 at 12:02 am #24445owlieParticipantTwo suggestions that might help her out for longer rides:
1) change out the seat. The stock seat on the S40 isn’t great if you are riding more than 2-3 hours.
2) get a windshield. Getting the wind off her chest will probably make the ride much more enjoyable- whatever bike she is on.
As for a canoe… rent one when you get there.
In the end, trailer your bikes if you want to. Not all bikes are good for a long haul, and you should ride your bike the way you want to, when you want to. Some of us are weekend warriors, some of us ride full time, but the key, what we all have in common, is that we love riding.
February 9, 2010 at 12:04 am #24463BouncingRadicalParticipantI’m doing a two day ride on and around the K Trail system between OK and AR. Looks like it’s going to be intense!
February 9, 2010 at 3:40 am #24468WetmelonParticipantPick up a SmartyCam before you go! Love to see the rides in HD!
