I was just curious as to where, when and how it came about?

There are various stories, but the most common I think, is that it’s a contraction of “squashed kid”.

Lol I always thought it was Squirrelly or Stupid kid…so guess there are quite a few different variations

I’ve heard it originated in southern CA, but that may be wrong.

I read this on the web somewhere and it’s almost certainly crap but you might find it amusing.

Some guy said that the term was coined by paramedics attending the scene of motorcycle accidents.

He said that when they found the accident ravaged bodies (sometimes in pieces), that with the guts hanging out, they looked like squids!
