introduction

Hardcore rider w/ 44 years experience, must be young for my years, that or all my piers just got old real fast. Why am I here? Found this site researching data on the 08 Suzuki GS500 my wives nephew just purchased. I like the fact this site is active and for the same reason I usually ride with much younger riders, you guys are still pumped on the sport as much as me :) Bikes owned in chronologic:
1964 Suzuki 80 K11 sport
1967 Honda C90
1970 Suzuki TC90 Blazer
1971 Suzuki TS185 (in parts)
1972 Suzuki TS250 Savage
1973 Honda CB350F
1974 jointly owned - 1953 BSA BB34 500cc Gold Star
1975 Suzuki RL250
1975 Suzuki TS185 (still own)
1975 Montesa Cappra 360VA (in parts)
1976 Yamaha TY175 Trials
1976 Yamaha TY250 Trials
1982 Honda FT500 Ascot (still own)
1986 BMW K100RS (still ride)
1992 Yamaha TY 250 Trials
1997 Scorpa 250 Trials
2001 Montesa Cota 315R
2006 Montesa Cota 4RT
2008 Montesa 4RT (current ride)
Generally find street riding kinda boring since all you can do for thrills is go fast ...and apparently that's illegal :/ ...always wanted to try sidecar racing! Motocross was a blast, but takes tons of space, parts, fuel and the noise makes people angry. Started riding Trials competition in the 90's and nothing compares to it! Trials is terrific exercise, challenging, little space, fuel and parts required, not intrusive for neighbors and my Boxer dog can even run along with me :(except during serious events)
2009 - CMA National Trials Champion - 1st place SuperVet class

That's a serious list of bikes!

Welcome, and by all means tell us your secrets! Speaking of which, how did you get into trials riding?

Ran out of space to ride

TrialsRider's picture

Ran out of space to ride Enduro and Motocross due to urban sprawl and was familiar with Trials through the interests of an older brother and a few close friends. I started riding CVMG competition 15 years ago, enjoyed it, excelled at it and modern trials became a natural transition. ...you don't get hurt as much on modern machines and can ride much bigger stuff :) Once you reach a point where you can drop the clutch and leap up a 3 or 4 foot vertical rock face with only a 6 foot run, the whole time feet on the pegs, you really get hooked on the sport.
Also helps that all the competitors are really great people, always willing to help and encourage you, unlike motocross where they are generally trying to kill you with rock spray. I'm not real big on violent confrontation! ...unless you threaten my dog that is.

Wow...I think you just bumped

Wow...I think you just bumped the experience level on this site up by 1000%
Hope you remain an active member to help all us noobs and "experienced" noobs out.

I remember watching trial riding on tv when I was a kid and then trying to emulate them on my bike. This was pre-bmx days so I wasn't very successful. I had an old grocery delivery boy style bike. Built like a tank, indestructible but not the easiest thing to throw around.

Definitely not for

Definitely not for beginners... But this is definitely my next bike !:)

Just finished the first CMA National Trial today, it was a total mud-fest near Ohsweken Ontario, slime hills and slick logs everywhere with scarcely a rock in sight, not my favorite seeing as I love to ride rock, but I did manage to slide home with a Gold in the old guy class :(=)
BTW Congrats to Jordan Szoke for taking 1st place Expert today with an exceptional score given the conditions. Too bad he didn't fair near as well with piloting that motorhome off the level field after the event.
Great time had by all and many thanks to Steel City Riders Motorcycle Club for hosting and marshaling todays event.

I love those little signature

TrialsRider's picture

I love those little signature ditties that people append to their postings, but I can't find one that is me, perhaps you can help decide ?

a) Physic's challenged Trick Monkey looking for Mates to Ride.

b) I am at one with the motorcycle, therefore the motorcycle is I ?

c) Lightly equipped Biker, wanting to ride dirty.

d) It's too dark to go riding and I stripped off my headlight, is there a full moon where you hang out ?

e) Many Sports need a Ball to Play, Moto Trials requires Two !

f) I laugh at crashing, it's not really a sickness, it's just my sense of humor.

e or f.... first three

e or f.... first three require them knowing what the heck your talking about. Except maybe A...in which case.... eh even I had to read it twice....maybe I am just tired.

****Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but, rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting "Holy Shit....What a ride!!!"****

And my vote is...

madjak30's picture

E...poke at most other sports and a punchline...love it...

I'm not much of a sports fan, unless it is motorsports...anything with an engine is cool to me...they had a trials demo team at the bike show this year...my 12yo daughter thought it was the coolest thing...she asked "is it safe?", and I responded "not as dangerous as other things you might want to do"...pretty sure she didn't get the inuendo, but I laughed...

Later.

Riding since May 2010...

Hi

New here. I started riding back in 1967 like TrialsRider above on a Tempo Sport 125, quickly illegally converted to a 175 with 13HP. Today I ride a GSX-R1000 with 180HP, quite a change. I am a Norwegian now living in the US and in the Motorcycle country of the Ozark Mountains.

My wife is actively involved pre-crash Motorcycle Accident Scene Trauma/Training (MAST), over 3,000 trained so far so they know what to do comping upon a MC accident. This includes 1st responders, police, riders, EMTs and bikers, even State Police's training instructors. I am also an instructor and also an MSF rider couch, training here (AR/MO). We have also spent many days on tracks in EU and US with my racing license.

We do lots of 2Up riding with plenty of long runs like Newfoundland 2007 over 9,000 miles in 4 weeks on the Gixxer 2Up. I guess that's not that common over here, but in EU it sure is.

Here's my list:

1967 Tempo Sport 125/175
1969 Triumph Bonneville - later rebuilt to a Dunstall Triumph (cafe racer)
1972 Honda CB750
1973 Norton Commando Fastback
1973 Yamaha TX750 (!)
1973 Honda CB400 4 cylinder sweet machine
1974 Dunstall Honda 900 - World's first (Cafe Racer)
1976 Suzuki 750 2 stroke water buffalo (borrowed in the season)
1978 Suzuki GS100E
1983 Suzuki GS1100E
1986 Suzuki GSX-R1100 ... 84,000 miles
1996 Honda CBR900RR
2000 Honda CBR929RR ... 36,000 miles
2002 Suzuki DR360
2005 Suzuki GSX-R1000 ... 54,000 miles
2006 Honda CBR1000RR
2007 Suzuki SV650

So there, we love, ride, think, breathe, dream motorcycles as members of HRCA, Bubbas, ABATE AR, MSF, SRT and maybe some I forgot.

Ride Safe!

Travel Light & Leave the Fears Behind You

You must travel very light

CBBaron's picture

You must travel very light and have a very tolerant partner if you can do 9000 miles in 4 weeks, 2up on a GSX-R.
