It all happened really fast in Chicago
Hello everyone. So...less than a month ago, I tested for my motorcycle permit, signed up for a class, and then received my m license last week. And before then, I hadn't even sat on a motorcycle! I've been debating between an '08 Ninja 250 and an '07 GS500F. I would have probably preferred a Ninja 500, but these two bikes are in good condition and were available relatively close to where I live. It was a tough choice for me, but I finally decided on the Suzuki, which was delivered yesterday! I'm extremely eager to get out and ride but rain is in the forecast for the next few days and I still need to get a helmet (I'll probably get one tonight). Anyway, just wanted to formally introduce myself. See you around the forums!

Welcome
Ahh, another "small town rider". (-: And so warm and balmy all year for you as well! What is that bar down around the general part of town as the House of Blues, named after a lizard or frog or some such thing? LoL It's been a while since i was there.
Stay safe!

City Commute
I live in the far SW burbs, so there's plenty of local roads and parking lots to practice on. Eventually, I'll get on the expressways. After all, I do work right in the Loop, and have friends who live in the city, but that will involve me taking I-80, then I-57, then the Dan Ryan. Yeah, it'll be awhile. Probably not til next year, since I probably only have 2 months before the Chicago winter weather with lake-effect snow rolls around. At the same time, I knew I had to get a bike now. There's 2 whole months left!...unless I move to CA :)
What, no snow?
What, you don't want to zoom around in the snow? LoL The coldest i have seen it there was in the low 40's, (April), but add that wind between the buildings . . brrrrrrrrrrrr. LoL Around here anything below 75 is winter weather. (-;

I'm in central IL so I know
I'm in central IL so I know what you mean about the limited riding season. Taking a bike on any of those roads at peak hour seems like a death wish to me. At least waiting till next year should means your confidence and skills are more ready for it.
